Okay guys, thanks for the encouraging replies. There is no need to apologize, of course, but here's the thing - I take a peek at TE from time to time and I can see some fine photogs who are also members here still uploading, commenting, participating and I'm thinking "why do we here so little from these fine folks?"
Reall, let me stress this point: SImon , Arnaud and the rest of the gang put together a beautiful, comfy, classy space for us, absolutely FREE of charge, and environment where we can gather as like-minded photogs for the most part (street/PJ/documentary/travel), and exchange ideas and techniques.
Now I've uploaded more and more regularly than just about anyone but that's not out of any generous impulse, rather it's because I'm somewhat isolated in my Tokyo dungeon and I like to communicate, so for what ever reasons you can say that I practice what I preach, but even a prolific fool like me is running out of ideas and fresh, vigourous input is what's needed here.
Now to the extent that this site may be "putting people off" or appearing "snobbish" or "exclusive" or whatever, we must nip that in the bud, we must search our sould here and tear out any hint of that. I see no reason why this wonderful space should not be even more vibrant...do you?

!
On the positive note I could find dozens of other things young people stare at, which are way worse than not so interesting photograpy.
You tell the masses something is great, they will believe it, National gallery of Canada is still trying to convince me that the painting on the left is art worth 1.76 million dollars, it has to be fantastic if they say so ;-)

Congratulations, Steve! You must be delighted!
I'm just a bit behind - our little girl is due mid-December (but already weighs 3kg - poor mum!) However, Mrs R did not understand my argument that only 21Mp full-frame 5D II images of her daughter would be good enough and vetoed a trip to the camera shop

Hehehe maybe 10 or 15 years back when you were a still a young communication business (wannabe) pro, you were looking in the same way at the same images and there where a bit older (anxious looking in the mirror to spot the first grey hairs ) consultants that knew a tat more about photography looking amused at young Luko.
But oke I get it, I don’t need to book an instant flight to Paris to catch all that ‘beauty’.
Good to know… edited by proxilva on 19/11/2008

Was so happy to have found Erwitt's book in my local store, "Woof" for only $5, his other book "dogs, dogs, dogs" has some awesome photography, you can imagine my excitement with getting the second book next for nothing,......... when I got home I quickly realized why it's sold for next pennies it's not worth more than that, most of the photograps are simply boring, studio portraits, no story, no connection, the whole book feels like it's made up of images that didn't make it to his other projects, and I am quite frankly surprised they ever got into print. If you ever find this book, just have a quick look if that, and quickly put it back, not worth your time.
I am sure many of you have found books by masters of photography that don't live up to their standards, please share....

Hi Chris Finally we will be at DC the 8th till 10th january. Actually, it should have been a pleasure to stay at your home... but it will be easyer to be at the center with my baby :o) But we can spend some times? Maybe we can visit you while going to DC? What is the name of your town? Do you know some hotels with parking at the center? Thanx again

mark Smart move Mark, say hi to the stilt fishermen in Koggala for me... No kidding, I'm sure there's a story to do there, they've always been snapshot like a postcard but I'm sure it could be worth a week if you can tie some bonds with them.

Paris photo month occurs every two years in november carrying more or less interesting photo exhibs and related events. American photography in the 70's is the name of one of this year highlights : 400 images of american photogs diplayed on the walls of the Richelieu public library.
Been there yesterday afternoon and came back a little disappointed. Obviously Winogrand and Harbutt top them all by a mile. although I feel frustrated with a meek sample of 10 photos by Winogrand and probably not more than 6 by Harbutt.
Very weirdly the show begins with Walker Evans (4 images of the 30's!!!) and Robert Frank (two prints of the 50s! Not even an american photographer...) is that my pervert thoughts or it looks like they had some issues to gather a consistant bunch. Boring Arbus portraits take the biggest part of the walls, followed by geometric Uzzle and contrasty Gibson... of course, we can't escape the usual ugliness and meaninglessness of Witkin-the-impostor (jeeze I hate that guy), some funny montages of Les Krims, three bleak shots of Freed, an endless sequence of trees and bushes shot by I-don't-who-that-guy-is-and-still-don't-care-though... and that's it.. time to go now.
On the other hand it was quite amusing to see photo school students, young communication business (wannabe) pros or simply parisian fashionistas who usually don't know a f*** about the history of photography to stare at some mediocre images, like they were in a transe.
Now if you have 7€ and half an hour to kill, it's always interesting to see the real prints, other than that : pass your way, buddy!

Javier
