Hi Alex,
I am sorry for not keeping in touch with you and your works. I know you take your photography very seriously so I hope my feedback is a help rather than a hinderance. As you know, I have been getting into studio photography as of late. I am not sure if it is a good or bad thing, but I am beginning to see things from a very technical point of view (much unlike before).
Ok, I'll start. I like the idea - its quite clear what you are saying. Perhaps a bit too clear, I'm not sure how I feel.
I think the overexposure is relevant to the message - "social decay".

Firstly, congratulations on a great juxtaposition of these two images - as a graphic or fine art presentation in their own right, a piece of reportage, a poster or the opposing pages of a book - this is a combination which can work in so many different ways and contexts. Both images are strong on their own but together they more than double the sum of the parts - I really like your positioning and the relative scale of the two images - an obvious but none the less strong symbolic impact - Stephen has commented on the link between the sticks - one dynamic and active and the other still and strong in front of the intimidating presence of the officers - I like the way he is relatively de-personalised and how the emphasis is placed more upon him as an unthinking tool of State control or oppression whilst the protestor is fully 'humanised' by her emotion and the focus upon her........an interesting series - juxtaposing images in this way is something i have also done a lot of - for exhibitions, projections, magazines and books etc. so i appreciate your ideas.

Excellent, Alex. From the choice of the different sizes of image, through to the use of the stick as the common element in both images; from the careful composition of both images in telling the story through to the superb tones of the B&W. Best wishes Stephen

Very strong juxtaposition, Alex, I love your BW reportage work. Here the fascinating point for me, bordering on frustration, is your choice of focus on the riot policeman's hands and not his face, which would have been the natural choice. But in the end I must say you were right. Good stuff!
